La Ward has an area of 0.3 square miles (0.7 km²), all of which is land. The town has a mayor-council form of government, and the economy is mainly based on agriculture and oil. La Ward is served by the La Ward Volunteer Fire Department and the Industrial Independent School District. The town is located at the junction of State Highway 172 and Farm to Market Road 616, around 110 miles southwest of Houston.
